SUMMARY:
Grant award agreement in the amount of $10,000,000 for wastewater effluent disposal.
BACKGROUND:
The County applied for and was awarded two separate Legislative Project Awards. The first was for $5Million dollars in the 2025-2026 State fiscal year. In State fiscal year 2026-2027, and additional 5Million dollars was awarded for the same project. A funding agreement for the initial $5Million was approved by the Board on June 9, 2026. Before the award was signed and submitted the County learned that additional funds were awarded. At the guidance of the FDEP grant manager, the original award was not returned and the award presented today incorporates the full amount of $10 Million dollars for the project. Placing all of the funds in one contract avoided the need to amend the original contract. The project is to fund deep injection well(s) and associated appurtenances for disposal of treated wastewater. Additional grant funding for this project includes $8Million in disaster Community Development Block Grant and $1.5M in funding from the Florida Department of Emergency Management Legislative Award Program. The project will be competitively bid once funding agreements are fully executed and the County receives authority to expend funds for the CDBG funds through Florida Commerce.
