REQUESTED MOTION:

To approve the revised Classification & Pay Plan as presented.

SUMMARY:

The Classification and Pay Plan has been revised to reflect the changes within the Building department. The department is not seeking to hire additional inspectors beyond their existing budgeted positions but is requesting the reclassification of the current Building Inspector I position into a two-tier structure: Building Inspector I at the current pay grade 106 and Building Inspector II at a pay grade 108. This change is intended to reflect the differences in experience, responsibilities, and technical competencies required at each level of the position. This change will allow candidates who do not yet hold a standard inspector license to apply and work while obtaining the required certifications within the defined timeframes.  This approach aligns with current industry standards and mirrors the practices adopted by neighboring counties. The revised job classification will enhance the department’s ability to attract qualified candidates and help mitigate the impact of the ongoing shortage of certified Building Inspectors. In addition to the reclassification, the Building Official position is being upgraded from a pay grade 111 to a pay grade 115 due to recent compensation survey findings and efforts to support employee retention.
