REQUESTED MOTION:
Chairman Steve Hickox to appoint Commissioner Elton Langford to serve as the Supervisor of Elections Substitute on the Canvassing Board for the 2026 General Election.
SUMMARY:
The Canvassing Board is composed of three members: the Supervisor of Elections; a County Court Judge who acts as the Chair, and the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners.
BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to § 102.141(1)(b), Fla. Stat., if the supervisor of elections is unable to serve or is disqualified, the chair of the board of county commissioners must appoint as a substitute member a member of the board of county commissioners who is not a candidate with opposition in the election being canvassed and who is not an active participant in the campaign or candidacy of any candidate with opposition in the election being canvassed. The supervisor, however, shall act in an advisory capacity to the canvassing board.
The Supervisor of Elections recommends that the Chairman of the BOCC appoint Commissioner Elton Langford to serve as her substitute in the event she is unable to serve or is disqualified in accordance with § 102.141(1)(b), Fla. Stat.
