body

REQUESTED MOTION:

To approve the construction contract with Zep Construction, Inc. for the NW Second Bunker Avenue Bridge Replacement Project (Bridge No. 044047) in the amount of $1,033,297.70.

SUMMARY:

This agenda item is to approve the construction contract with Zep Construction, Inc., the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, for the NW Second Bunker Avenue Bridge Replacement Project. The project includes demolition of the existing timber bridge and construction of a new three-span concrete bridge with associated roadway and drainage improvements. The project is funded through FEMA as part of Hurricane Ian recovery efforts.

BACKGROUND:

DeSoto County identified the need to replace the bridge on NW Second Bunker Avenue due to structural deficiencies caused by Hurricane Ian. The project scope includes the removal of the existing wooden bridge (Bridge No. 044033) and construction of a new concrete bridge with precast piles, cast-in-place components, traffic railings, roadway tie-ins and riprap stabilization. The project was formally advertised, and bids were received from qualified contractors. Zep Construction, Inc., a Florida corporation with extensive experience in bridge construction, submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid. The project will be completed within approximately 240 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed and supports the County’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure resiliency and public safety.
