REQUESTED MOTION:

Authorize the County Administrator to approve Purchase orders related to the remediation at Fire Station 1 as needed not to exceed $58,546.02

SUMMARY:

Emergency Mold Remediation Fire Station 1

BACKGROUND:

Fire Station 1 has been experiencing ongoing condensation issues, primarily during the humid summer months, which have caused damage to ductwork, insulation, ceiling tiles, and other building components. Unable to identify the problem, despite several attempts to identify the root cause, staff has had to engage a Mechanical Engineer to conduct test and balance assessments, as well as pressure testing. During this process, it was discovered that mold remediation was necessary. Mold testing confirmed its presence, prompting the engagement of Servpro as the remediation contractor. Servpro has proposed a phased remediation approach, with Phases 1 and 2 totaling $33,235.81, which will address the immediate mold issue and commence upon approval. Phase 3, which is contingent upon the condition of the HVAC system following the final assessment and repairs, will only be implemented if necessary and may be incorporated into the contractor’s scope of work. Staff recommends proceeding with Phases 1 and 2 to begin remediation efforts promptly while continuing to collaborate with the contractor and engineer to develop a long-term solution for the condensation issue and restore any affected systems after the remediation process.
