REQUESTED MOTION:

To approve the Agreement between the Federal Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and DeSoto County to conduct Phase I (Engineering and Design) of a safe room at Fire Station 2 located at 8789 SW County Road 761, Arcadia, FL 34266.

 

SUMMARY:

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), Mitigation Bureau, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, has awarded DeSoto County funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for the Engineering and Design of a safe room at Fire Station 2.

 

BACKGROUND:

Fire Station 2 has been identified as a critical emergency response facility in a high-risk flood and storm-prone area. This safe room will provide a hardened structure for emergency responders and essential personnel during hurricane and severe weather events. The grant award follows DeSoto County’s application and prioritization for hazard mitigation improvements under FEMA DR-4673. The project is being completed in two phases. Phase I (Engineering/Design and Phase II (Construction)
