body

REQUESTED MOTION:

A motion to enter into the record the staff report and all competent substantial evidence introduced at the hearing and make a recommendation to adopt/deny the ordinance to rezone from A-5 to A-10.

SUMMARY:

The agenda request before the DeSoto County Planning Commission/Local Planning Agency, is an Official Zoning District Atlas amendment (rezoning) application (RZNE-0076-2025) filed by the Owner, New Florida Ventures Corp, to change the zoning district of +/- 231 acres from Agricultural - 5 (A-5) to Agricultural - 10 (A-10).

The property is generally located in west central DeSoto County, west of SW CR 769.

BACKGROUND:

The application is for a request to amend the Official Zoning District Atlas by changing the zoning district of +/- 231 acres from Agricultural - 5 (A-5) to Agricultural - 10 (A-10) for property in the Rural/Agricultural Future Land Use category. Portions of the site have operated under a Type IV excavation permit. The excavation site has a history dating back to 2006 (EP 2006-01) and most recently received final excavation plan approval (EP 2018-01; Resolution 2023-056) by the DeSoto County Board of County Commissioners on April 25, 2023, for 3 parcels (91 acres with a 31.7-acre project area). The staff report for the Final Excavation Plan shows that the permit was valid until June 22, 2026.
