REQUESTED MOTION:
To hereby proclaim the month of April 2024, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
SUMMARY:
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is intended to draw attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and has public health implications for every community member of DeSoto County.
BACKGROUND:
Sexual violence continues to be a major social and health crisis in our society. SPARCC provides free services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, and seeks to prevent such violence through public awareness and education. We urge the citizens of DeSoto County to recognize the prevalence of sexual assault, promote awareness, and seek to prevent sexual assault by wearing teal ribbons, which are available from SPARCC, during the month of April 2024
